Cleaning out CoreSource 101: Updating/correcting ISBNs

Have you ever ingested an asset and been unable to find it, only to realize that it was mistakenly assigned the wrong ISBN?  Perhaps it was early on a Monday morning, don’t worry, we’ve all been there!  The steps below will help you correct the ISBN and ensure that the asset can be found within its Title Group.

The only method for updating or correcting an ISBN is by ingesting a CoreSource metadata template, in which you have included the necessary changes.  The CoreSource metadata template can be found in CoreSource Help (the blue question icon in the top-right of your CoreSource account Help Button with a question mark icon), within the Forms & Templates section and is titled “Metadata Template (Non-Audio)” or “Metadata Template (Audio)” for your audio files.

To include the necessary changes, follow the steps below:

  1. Enter the Title Group ID in column A.
  2. Enter the correct ISBN in column B.
  3. Enter the asset type in column C.
  4. Ingest the metadata template.
  5. Check to see that the ISBN has updated in CoreSource before re-distributing to vendors.

For example, if I uploaded an EPUB to Title Group 9781552452141 with the ISBN 9781770560123, when it should really be 9781770560130, the correction in my metadata template would look like this:

A spreadsheet with the first row titled "Basic Publication Information." Column A shows the heading Title Group ID and the cell beneath it has the ISBN 9781552452141. Column B's heading is ISBN13, the cell beneath it shows the ISBN 9781770560130. Column C's heading is Asset Type and all cells underneath are blank.
