About APLN

The Accessible Publishing Learning Network (or APLN) is a repository of plain language explanations about the various bits and pieces of accessible publishing: ebook and audiobook production, image descriptions, metadata, website accessibility, digital marketing, and strategic planning. There is something there for everyone in your publishing house as you work toward born accessible publishing.

The posts are robustly indexed, and all have extensive keywords and categories that will make your search for information uncomplicated and seamless. There are direct paths from beginner to intermediate to technical—all marked with clear labels—to wade through any of the streams. In addition to blog posts, we’ve tried to cater to a variety of learning styles with checklists, videos, and downloadable templates and scripts,

The second element of the site is the community hub. This is a forum to post questions, comments, and resources on your thorniest accessibility problems and the very best (only?) place to crowdsource solutions. The community librarian will monitor the boards and weigh in frequently to point people in the right direction.

Navigate to APLN, create an account, favourite some posts, and ask some questions of the community. Don’t forget to suggest posts you’d like to see and to sign up for the APLN newsletter while you are there.

Recently, BWL Publishing Inc worked closely with eBound Canada converting select titles into Accessible files. eBound’s guidance was invaluable. They made the process quick and painless and were with us each step of the way. Highly recommended.

Nancy Bell

Our experience with the Benetech Certification Program was insightful and clear. While the process is a time commitment, the recommendations and corrections were clearly communicated and the team was available to answer questions and provide technical support. The certification process built confidence in our epub quality and the accessible experience we are providing our readers.
